The debate on the "Diamond journal" concept
The use of the term "diamond" for free open access journals represents an increasingly shared value, understood not only as a form of access to academic publication but as a fight against the commodification of scientific knowledge.
Beyond debates about the use of this designation, which is linked to a mineral with a history of extractivism and slavery, that is why the central challenge of this Diamond Future project is to stimulate academic autonomy and the: quality publications directed by the academic community, without fees for authors or readers, participating in shared and federated open infrastructures

UNESCO
Diamond Open Access is an equitable academic publication model, supported by shared infrastructures and open licenses, that makes scientific knowledge available to all as a digital public good, without costs for readers or authors.
cOAlition S-DOAS (for IPSP)
Diamond Open Access refers to an academic publishing model in which journals and platforms charge no fees to authors or readers. Diamond open access journals are community-driven, academic-led, and academically owned publishing initiatives.
Global Diamond Summit Toluca 2023
Diamond Open Access is a model of academic communication in which research results are available openly, without charging authors or readers. In this model, all content-related elements are directed and owned by academic communities.
DOAG-Germany
A diamond open access magazine offers immediate open access to all content published by the journal, without charging any fee to the authors. Neither journals that charge Article Processing Fees (APC), nor Open Open Delayed Access hybrid journals meet this definition.
CRAFT-OA
Proposes 6 criteria for diamond publication in collaboration with the community: 1) Persistent identification-ISSN 2) Academic journal: described the evaluation process 3) Open licenses 4) No commissions of any kind 5) Open to all authors 6) Owned by public or non-profit organizations with research missions and scholarships.
