About us

Collaborative Initiative

Diamond Future is a collaborative initiative between PREBI-SEDICI (National University of La Plata) and the Center for the Study of the Circulation of Knowledge (CECIC-UNCuyo) funded by Berlin University Alliance. This project arises from the growing commercialization of scientific communication and is complementary with various initiatives in Europe and Latin America to promote quality, sustainability, circulation and visibility of Diamond Open Access (DOA) journals, that is, those who do not charge for publishing or reading.

Transforming Academic Assessment

There are numerous initiatives to promote diamond access journals that focus on editorial quality and free access. But one of the biggest challenges in the current context of academic publishing is to inform better to influence a journal’s choice by researchers. Also, it is necessary to broaden the horizon of the evaluators who participate in examining committees for funding, teaching competitions or promotion in the research career. The creation of new sources that allow to know the journals autonomously animated by the community is crucial for integrating open science with reforms in research evaluation.

Beyond Universal Metrics

Diamond Future emphasizes the need to go beyond global standards and an idea of 'excellence' measured with indicators such as the impact factor. Aims to contribute towards federated infrastructures and context-sensitive evaluation systems that reflect the diversity of academic communities and have multiple quality indicators.

Our Mission

Through this tool we seek to encourage publication in diamond open access journals, providing information on inclusion in collections that assess a set of scientific quality criteria, strengthening academic autonomy, multilingualism and bibliodiversity.
